ALTON NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN UPDATE

In September last year Alton Town Council committed to defer progressing on its Neighbourhood Plan to enable consideration of all sites in the updated Land Availability Assessment.

Alton Town Council are now considering a vision led approach; ‘Alton 2050’. To form this vision, we will be approaching all communities of interest (i.e. businesses, employers, schools, health authorities, community groups etc) to inform us of what a sustainable Alton could look like in 2050. We will need help, particularly to understand the infrastructure requirements that will support a larger town, and Alton Town Council will be engaging specialist help over the coming weeks. We will also be engaging a new Planning Consultant to guide us through the planning complexities and process.

Alton Town Council fully understands the challenge of building new homes but is determined to present a plan that is both sustainable and justifiable. We believe that driving our vision for Alton 2050 is the best way to prevent piecemeal development that is not ‘joined up’ and often ignores critical infrastructure enablers.

We look forward to engaging with all Altonians to set the vision.

  1. I am interested in the sport & leisure facilities of Alton and also the environmental impact of the house building on the river Wey and sewage works..
I was the Hockey Club representative on the now defunct Sports Council and we were extremely disappointed along with many other sports clubs on then decision by EHDC to replace the Sports Centre with a Leisure Centre on the same site. Still active with the Hockey Club and as a Southern League Panel Cricket Umpire I have a strong relationship with Alton Cricket Club.
