We are excited to announce the booking system for this year’s Alton Walking Festival is now open. All walks must be booked in advance as there are limited spaces (if the walks are fully booked you can register to go onto a waiting list). Once you have booked your walks you will receive a booking confirmation (please check you junk/spam folder) please keep and read this as it includes important information and a link to the booking if you need to make any amendments.
With 100 walks to choose from we would like to say a massive thank you to all our committed local volunteer groups and walking enthusiasts who have put together a programme to promote, share and develop walks around Alton.

Alton Walking Festival, now in its 12th year, is a truly friendly walking event, ideal for enthusiastic walkers, relaxed wanderers and curious explorers of all ages. The festival is the ideal opportunity for the local community and visitors from further afield to meet likeminded people, explore the town and its surrounding villages and discover the superb Hampshire countryside with its abundance of wildlife and rich cultural heritage. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
Spider Walks are an exciting addition for 2024. Participants will utilise public transport to begin a long-distance walk, retracing their steps back to Alton on foot. Look for the spider symbol in the booklet to identify these themed walks. Here are this year’s Spider Walks: Farnham To Alton, Overton To Alton , Winchester To Alton, Liss To Alton, Bordon To Alton, Bishops Waltham To Alton, Odiham To Alton, Petersfield To Alton, Basingstoke To Alton, Whitchurch To Alton and Guildford To Alton.
Please consider the following walking speeds when booking your walks:
Slow walks will be at 2 miles per hour or less
Moderate will be 2.5 to 3 miles per hour
Brisk walks will be 3+ miles per hour
