The 2026 Alton Walking Festival, running from 1st–31st May, marks the 14th year of this truly friendly walking celebration in Alton. Ideal for enthusiastic walkers, relaxed wanderers, and curious explorers of all ages. The festival is a wonderful opportunity for local residents and visitors alike to meet like-minded people, explore the town and its surrounding villages, and discover the superb Hampshire countryside with its abundance of wildlife and rich cultural heritage. New for 2026
Family Walks – 5 day programme
A five-day programme of family walks taking place during the May half term. Designed to bring fun and adventure to younger walkers, these events will include a free train trip, lively storytelling sessions with Pumpkin Pantos, a family-friendly ghost walk, and hands-on crafty activities with Alton Arts Festival. It’s a great chance for families to enjoy time outdoors together while discovering local stories and hidden gems.
Accessible Walks – Wheelchair users and pushchairs
The festival also continues its commitment to inclusivity with Accessible Walks suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs, with both on-road and off-road options available. These thoughtfully planned routes ensure that everyone can enjoy the beauty of the area at a comfortable pace.
Sight Loss
In partnership with the Sight Loss Council, participants are invited to join blind and partially sighted volunteers to explore Alton through the eyes of someone with sight loss. Learn about different sight conditions, try simulation glasses, and discover how people with sight loss navigate the streets.
