Congratulations to Councillor Barbara Tansey who was elected as Town Mayor for 2026/2027 at last night’s Annual Meeting.
Councillor Tansey said she was humbled and honoured to have been elected as Town Mayor today and thanked councillors for their trust in her. She said a few words of thanks to the outgoing Mayor, who she said has set an example to them all.

The Town Council comprises of thirteen Councillors who represent the seven wards into which the town is divided. Full Council meets monthly with the exception of August and December.
There is a wealth of information that Councillors need to read in order to be able to make informed decisions in meetings, and they are therefore provided with workshops and briefings, sometimes with specialists in the various fields, so that they can ensure they have sufficient opportunity to ask questions and ensure that they are confident that they have as much information as possible to guide them in their decision-making.
Councillors are ultimately responsible for the activities of the council, with their resolutions being carried out by the Town Hall staff. Councillors are elected every four years and, in addition to administering the affairs of the council, deal with a multitude of matters on behalf of residents in their ward.
