Nominations open
The Town Council is looking for nominations for the David Whitmarsh Young Hero Award for 2023. Back in 2021 Alton Town Council was approached by former Town Mayor, Peter Whitmarsh, who was looking to make an award in honour of his late son David; a young Altonian who became ill with a rare Leukaemia as a child.
The Award will be given to a young person who has shown examples of courage, endurance or hope in adversity and has inspired other members of the Alton and Holybourne communities throughout 2023.
Previous winners of the Award have been Libby Bentley, who has been a consistent and dedicated member of the 2nd Alton Girls’ Brigade. She demonstrated courage and endurance beyond her years, working her way through the Company and has held the post “Young Leader”. Mary Hirst is the current holder of the Award, putting her personal struggles aside she has helped others in the Alton community by being cheerful, encouraging and helpful to many. She is a member of the Army Cadets working hard as a constant member of the team, attending many camps and has also encouraged other cadets.
