Town Mayor

The Town Mayor is elected annually each May and is the Chairman of the Council. The Mayor presides over Full Council Meetings and represents the Town Council in her civic role. The Deputy Mayor provides civic support to the Town Mayor and will often be able to attend functions when the Mayor is unavailable.

If you would like to invite the Town Mayor to attend any function, please complete Town Mayor's Function Form in the first instance and return to:-

Samantha Brown, Town Mayor's Assistant at the Town Hall, Market Square, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 1HD.

This form will tell the Town Mayor everything they need to know about your event and what is expected during their attendance. The Mayor's Assistant, will then contact you to let you know whether if the Mayor is able to accept the invitation or to advise if the Deputy Mayor is available.

The current Town Mayor's Chaplain (Lay Preacher) is Mr Robin Hamilton-Jones and her charity for the year is Alton Climate Action Network (ACAN).

Town Mayor's Chain

The Town Council has a Badge of Office and Chain which the Town Mayor wears on official occasions. The Badge shows the town's crest comprising a shield divided into four quarters containing the red rose of Hampshire, a stock of wheat and two oast houses signifying Alton's close agricultural associations and a crossed sword and battle axe recalling a part of Alton's history in the clash of arms in the neighbourhood of the parish church in 1643 at the time of the Civil War. The chain has past Town Mayors' names engraved on each link.
