Family help is allowed to make the frame but the scarecrow shouldessentially be the work of children. The Scarecrow should be made of natural materials - no plastic faces.
It does not have to be large, perhaps use clothes that have become to small
There are two categories individual entries and group entries (Schools, Playgroups, Young People's organisations).
First, second and third prizes are awarded in each category (something to grow donated by Garthowen Garden Centre) and the overall winner will hold the Scarecrow Trophy for a year.
It is not necessary to enter in advance, there is no entry fee - bring the scarecrow along on the day. 10.00am - 12 noon.
The scarecrows remain on until 2.00pm to enable members of the public to vote for their favourite scarecrow
The Scarecrow competition has been extended to include art. Paper & crayons will be available for children to draw a scarecrow. Come along, draw a picture and receive a plant – a hardy perennial grown by members of Alton Horticultural Society
