Lets Get Creative For The Jubilee

To celebrate Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee Alton Town Council will be launching a children's creative writing competition with a royal theme. We are inviting children of all ages to let their imaginations run wild and submit a short story or poem for inclusion in our first children's anthology in aid of the Town Mayors Charity 2022/2023.

To help children with their stories, if they wish to enter, Alton Town Council has arranged different workshops for children to take part in to help with their creativity throughout the day. The workshops will be taking place outside in the Public Gardens, Alton.

The workshops are free to attend, places are limited, and will be run by local performing/presenting Duo Luke and Elliott, local author Louise Morrish and Pumpkin Pantos Playwright Josh Dixon.

“We’re delighted to be a part of Alton Town Council’s plans for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year. We can tell you it’s going to be a day packed full of activities, experiences and surprises - fun for all of the family! We’ll be doing some fun drama-related activities and games for younger children, as well as having a think about theatre scripts and how we can translate creativity from brain to page. Hopefully the weather’s kind to us!”   - Luke & Elliott

The pair are very active on the Children’s Arts scene, teaching weekly acting lessons and improvisation techniques at Holybourne’s Youth Theatre, as well as having led guest sessions at other venues such as Elkolet and The Butts Primary School. ‘I’m thrilled to be involved with Alton Town Council’s celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year. There will so much to enjoy on the day, and I’m really looking forward to sharing some creative writing tips with any budding young authors out there!’ Louise

Louise Morrish

Louise is a school librarian and debut novelist who lives in Alton, Hampshire. During term time, she manages a busy secondary school library. Every week, she runs a writing club for her students - The Ink Drinkers – and they share stories and enjoy all things bookish.

When she’s not encouraging students to be creative, she writes herself, and will be publishing her first novel, ‘Operation Moonlight’, with Penguin Random House in July.

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Louise will be running three creative writing sessions (1/2 hour writing 1/2 illustration) throughout the day for both primary and secondary school children.
