The Lions Roar.
The Lions Club of Alton was founded in the town in 1972; it is the local element of a world-wide organisation which started in 1917 and now consists of over 1.45 million members in around 22,000 clubs across more than 200 countries.
The Lions mission is community service – it cares for the environment, helps to feed the hungry, provides medical assistance to the blind and sick, and aids seniors, the disabled, the disadvantaged and the young. From creating water wells in desert Africa, clinics for the blind in Asia, famine and disaster relief in the Third World, the activities are many and varied but all with the same goal – to serve the community.
In Alton, around 31 of us Lions meet every month at The Alton House Hotel where we plan our fundraising programme which embraces a whole range of projects – running the monthly Craft Fair, distributing Xmas presents to the town’s elderly and disadvantaged, street collections, marshalling the two annual races, supporting Alton College, Bushey Leaze, local hospices and many, many more...we do all this not only for the satisfaction of putting something back into our community, but also because there is a lot of fun in the process.
We also enjoy social occasions – club dinners and an annual lunch, quiz nights, club rambles, outings to Goodwood races and an occasional skittles evening are just some of our club events.
We are always on the look-out for new members, so if the idea of joining in the fun and sense of achievement that is derived from all these activities appeals to you, please visit our website at www.altonlions.org.uk or tel 0845 833 2701 email email@example.com and find us on Facebook Alton Lions Club – Registered Charity No:1174502
