Alton Walking Festival from 29th April-7th May 2017

Originally held over a weekend in 2013, 2014 and 2015 we are delighted to announce that due to popular demand was extended for 2016 to take place over an entire week! Now for 2017 we are expanding the event even more to also include walks in the villages surrounding Alton.

We will be planning a week of guided walks that will give you the chance to explore the Alton and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Whether you are looking to delve into the town's history, explore the local area or are a keen walker our programme will offer something for all ages, abilities and tastes.

Weekly Tuesday Market

Since 2009 weekly Tuesday market has been operated on a day-to-day basis by Southern Market Traders  to whom all stall enquiries should be directed. 

Open 52 weeks of the year, the market is a destination venue for locals from Alton and the surrounding villages. High quality traditional local produce, mixed with a flavour of the modern, the market offers a choice for everyone. You can shop the market and stay for a cuppa and a snack, meet a friend for a morning out or just nip in for the weekly essentials 

The Market runs from 9am - 3pm and is located in Turk Street; the nearest Car Parks are either to the rear of Marks and Spencers, the rear of Iceland or Lady Place Car Park.

Alton's Hampshire Farmers Market - 2nd Saturday of Each Month

Alton is proud to have the famous 'Hampshire Farmers Market' visit on the second Saturday of every month.
As one of the largest farmer’ markets organisations in the UK, Hampshire Farmers’ Markets is a not-for-profit, community interest organisation that aims to bring the best quality, in season local produce to the people of Hampshire, as well as providing a retail platform for the county’s producers – creating greater awareness of the excellent food and drink they produce, which helps to support the rural economy, rural employment and protects the environment.

2017 - Jane Austen at 200

Regency Week

2017 is the 200th anniversary of the death of local literary icon and local resident Jane Austen 

The Town Council has a number of events planned throughout the year to help commemorate the nations favourite author, her work and her association with Alton. Please see http://www.altonevents.co.uk/ for more information.

The Town Council is pleased to be associated with Regency Week - 17th to 25th June 2017 in various locations in Alton and Chawton 

This is a whole week packed full of Regency themed events celebrating the towns connection with the historically important and iconic writer, Jane Austen. Jane Austen's spent the last eight years of her life living in the village of Chawton near Alton. Her 18th-century fromer residence is now a small private museum - please click here for Jane Austen’s House Museum.

This year's Regency Week takes place from 17th-25th June 2017 and is includes Regency Day in Alton Town Centre on 17th June, The Regency Ball, Chawton Vintage Fair, Guided Walks, Talks & Tours, Victorian Cricket Tournament and the Regency Supper to name a few. Summer - Bus Rally & Last Night of the Proms

Alton Bus Rally - 10am-5pm, Sunday 16th July 2017, Anstey Park

 

Bus Rally

An annual event run by volunteers and supported by The Mid Hants Railway Displays of buses and coaches alongside classic vehicles on Anstey Park. Free bus rides operating from the event at Anstey Park to neighbouring villages and towns, through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. For more information visit there website.

Alton's Last night of the Proms is organised by Alton Concert Orchestra and Alton Town Council.

 Please Note: this is a free event however we rely on your generosity by donating to the retiring collection at the end of the evening to continue to hold this wonderful event every year, thank you.



Autumn - Herald Classic Car Show

Herald Classic Car Show - 10am-4pm, date TBC for 2017 in Alton Town Centre

An annual event held every September with an impressive display of Classic Motor Vehicles along the High Street alongside a Specialist Market and into the Market Square where Live Entertainment can be enjoyed by the visitors.

Alton’s Traditional Pancake Race is traditionally held on the Tuesday Alton’s Traditional Pancake Race is traditionally held on the Tuesday of February half term in the Public Gardens at 11.30am. With lots of flipping good fun for young and old alike, from traditional fancy dress pancake races.

There are pancake races for children and adults, plus team relay races where friends, families, community groups and businesses are encouraged to enter together. Fancy dress adds to the frivolous nature of this non-competitive event, where prizes are not necessarily awarded to the fastest flipper but to the person/team who embraces the event to the best of their ability and is a true good sport on the day.

Come and visit Alton's traditional Christmas Market and this year will be even better as it combines with the Christmas Lights Switch-On as the event finale!

Alton's High Street will be filled with festive stalls, live entertainment and street food. Plus stalls and activities in the Assembly Rooms and at the Christmas Cracker inside the Community Centre.
