Welcome to the Website of Alton Town Council
2008 runner-up in the Hampshire ALC Communications Awards - Best Website

Alton, deriving from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning farmstead at the source of the river, is a historic market town situated at the head of the Northern River Wey valley surrounded by beautiful Hampshire countryside, and has a population of 17,000. Alton is twinned with Montecchio Maggiore, Italy, and Pertuis, France.
The next planned meeting of the Planning & Transportation Committee scheduled for Wednesday, 10th March 2010 at 6.15 p.m. will be held at The Assembly Rooms due to the anticipated high number of residents who have expressed an interest in the application from Coors regarding the proposed supermarket on the site of the Bass Sports & Social Club.
At a meeting on 10th February the Council determined that it is satisfied with the overall package of replacement sports facilities in the event that planning permission is granted for the Coors Sports Ground. The Council has requested modest changes to the proposed designs to reduce the visual impact of the new facilities. The Agenda papers and plans are available under the Minutes and Document tab.
