Alton Town Council prides itself on being a listening council and uses a number of forms of communication to keep in touch with residents.

• All meetings of the Town Council and its principal committees are open to the public to attend, and are advertised on council notice boards and the website. Not only can you attend, but you can ask questions or make comment near to the beginning of the meeting. You can submit a written question, but these must be submitted to the Town Clerk by noon on the day of the meeting. Questions should, ideally, be relevant to the activities of the Town Council, but in reality all questions relating to the town are welcome.

• The council publishes a twice yearly newsletter, the Altonian, which is delivered to every household in Alton and the surrounding villages. It tells residents what the council has been doing and often invites opinion on key issues.
  
  
• The Council also produces a Pocket Guide to Alton which is available from the Town Hall and local public buildings. In addition it publishes an annual Events Guide which is delivered to 13,000 homes in the local area.
  

• The council usually has a number of projects progressing at any one time and likes to gain residents views on its plans. In the past, consultations, which often take the form of a combination of public meetings, exhibitions or questionnaires, have been held on improvements to playgrounds and public halls, the development of allotment sites for affordable housing, the construction of new sporting facilities and installation of footway lighting in open spaces.

• The Town Hall in Market Square is also open Monday to Thursday 9am - 5pm and Friday's from 9am - 4.30pm if you would like to visit in person. If you would like to speak to a particular Member of staff we would recommend contacting the Town Hall in advance.
