Situated at the top of Crown Hill, in Alton High Street, the Assembly Rooms has several rooms available to hire for events such as Wedding Receptions, Dances, Parties, Business Meetings, Conferences, Seminars, Exhibitions, Drama and Music Performances, Clubs and Societies.
The building was designed by architect Charles Barry, one of the sons of Sir Charles Barry the architect for the Palace of Westminster following its destruction by fire in the early 1830's. These buildings are typical of their age, and have been executed with considerable flair and confidence.
The building was completed around 1880 and was presented to the town in 1919. Its original purpose was housing large community events and social gatherings but in recent years it has adopted more of a village hall type of role hosting a varied range of local groups and organisations as well as commercial bookings for events and celebrations.
