ALFI (Alton Local Food Initiative’s) plots and planter


An interesting circular walk of formerly neglected patches of ground, and planters, which have been turned into productive food-growing areas by the Alton Local Food Initiative. The route will explore how food is grown for local use across the town, where possible following side paths and alleyways. It will also highlight some of the opportunities that exist to buy local food.

There will be an option to continue the walk to the ALFI Community Orchard at Jubilee Fields, approximately a mile further.

Start time and meeting point:

10:00 am Alleyway next to Costa Coffee, Alton High Street

Distance / Approx duration:

2 ¼ miles / 2 ¼ hours (optional further mile to Jubilee Fields Orchard)

Alton Town Tour

Take a guided tour around key historic landmarks in Alton such as St Lawrence Church and the Friends Meeting House.

Alice Holt

A fast-paced walk from Alton to Alice Holt through villages, along country lanes and fields followed by a walk around Alice Holt and then back to Alton. There will be the lunch stop at Alice Holt.
